An Excellent Indian Meal
It may take all day for the shopping and cooking, but it's well worth it! A good combination of textures, flavors, and heats from my two favorite Indian cookbooks. The lamb with spinach, chicken, and dhal got special raves.
From Madhur Jaffrey's Indian Cooking:
Lamb with Spinach (Dilli ka saag gosht)
Chicken with Roasted Coriander in a Coconut Curry Sauce (Dakshini murgh)
Green Beans with Ginger and Green Coriander (Hare masale ki sem)
Simple Buttery Rice with Onion (Pyaz wali basmati chaaval)
Yogurt with Walnuts and Fresh Coriander (Akhrote ka raita)
Naan
From the Best-Ever Curry Cookbook (by Mridula Baljekar):
Lamb Kofta Curry
Tarka Dhal
Tomato and Onion Salad
If you can't find the special ingredients near you, try Kalustyan's in NYC. The web site's ok, but a visit is unforgettable for those of us out in the ethnic grocery store waste land.
